Badge & Case Layout

Drop artwork into a button badge, fridge magnet or phone case template and get a file that is actually the right physical size. The bleed ring, face line, safe zone and camera cutout are all derived from millimetre geometry, so what comes out of the printer matches what goes into the press.

Why the three lines matter

A button badge is not printed at its finished size. The visible face of a 58 mm badge is 58 mm across, but the paper is cut at roughly 70 mm so the extra ring can wrap around the metal shell and tuck behind it. Print at 58 mm and you get a white rim after pressing. That is the difference between the face line and the cut line, and it is why this page exports the larger figure.

The safe zone exists because the wrap is curved. Anything close to the face line ends up bending around the shoulder of the badge where it cannot be read straight on. Faces, logos and text belong inside the pink line; only backgrounds should run out to the cut.

As a rule of thumb the cut circle is ten to twelve millimetres wider than the finished badge, and the exact figure varies between press manufacturers. Worth noting: 2.25 inches is 57.15 mm, so a 58 mm design pressed in a 57 mm American machine leaves a sliver of white. Both sizes are listed separately above for that reason.

Phone cases work the same way, with a bleed around the body and a safe inset from the edge, plus one extra constraint: the camera island has to be a real hole. Here it is punched out of the artwork rather than drawn over it, so the exported PNG carries transparency in that region.

Questions

Is my artwork uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is decoded in the page and every layout runs on your device.

Why does the export come out larger than the badge I ordered?

Because it includes the bleed. A 58 mm badge exports as a 70 mm square image; the press cuts the 70 mm circle and the wrap gives you a clean 58 mm face with no white edge.

What resolution should my source image be?

Enough to cover the pixel figure shown under Geometry. At 300 DPI a 70 mm badge needs about 827 px square. The panel warns you and reports the effective DPI if your file falls short, rather than silently upscaling.

Do the coloured guides get printed?

Never. They are drawn into the preview canvas only. Exports call the same renderer with guides switched off, so the file that reaches the press carries artwork alone.

How accurate are the phone case dimensions?

They are nominal figures for the case back and camera island, which is enough to lay artwork out. Blanks vary between manufacturers, so measure yours and use the manual camera fields before committing to a batch.

Can I get a vector file instead?

Not from this page — the output is a raster layout because the artwork itself is raster. If you need cut paths for a plotter, the shapes here are plain circles, rounded squares and a heart, all of which your cutting software can generate at the exact millimetre sizes listed.
